If you work in HR or are involved with hiring, you’re likely familiar with the term the ‘Great Resignation.’

But what does this mean for companies that are trying to win a heated talent war? How does this impact everyday professionals who are burnt out, looking for a new challenge, or hoping to increase their financial prosperity? While the ‘Great Resignation’ looks different for everyone, it’s important to get clear on how you can make the best of this job-leaving epidemic, before it’s too late.

Over the next few days, I’ll share what the ‘Great Resignation’ means for employers and employees.

First, we should probably understand why the ‘Great Resignation’ became such a big event for employees, even during a global pandemic.

The term ‘Great Resignation’ was first coined back in 2019 by Texas A&M management professor Anthony Klotz. Klotz predicted that there would be a mass exodus of employees leaving their jobs. Over 11.5 million people left their jobs in just three months from April through June of this year, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
